ನಞ್ (nañ — the negative prefix a-/an-)

ಅರ್ಥ: "ಇಲ್ಲದ/ಅಲ್ಲದ" ಎಂಬ ನಿಷೇಧಾರ್ಥ ಸೇರಿಸುವ ಉಪಸರ್ಗ. Meaning: The negating prefix a-/an- (before a vowel) — Sanskrit's version of English "un-/non-/in-".

ವ್ಯಂಜನದ ಮುಂದೆ "ಅ", ಸ್ವರದ ಮುಂದೆ "ಅನ್" ಎಂಬ ರೂಪ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಗೀತೆಯ ಪದಕೋಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ — ಅಚಲ, ಅಕ್ಷರ, ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತ, ಅನನ್ಯ ಮುಂತಾದ ಹಲವು ಪದಗಳ ಮೊದಲ ಅಕ್ಷರ.

Takes the form "a-" before a consonant and "an-" before a vowel. Extremely common in the Gita's vocabulary — the first syllable of acala, akṣara, avyakta, ananya, and many more.
