ಆಜ್ಞಾರ್ಥ (ājñārtha — imperative, ಲೋಟ್)

ಅರ್ಥ: ಆಜ್ಞೆ, ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಅಥವಾ ಅನುಮತಿ ಸೂಚಿಸುವ ಭಾವ (ಲೋಟ್ ಲಕಾರ). Meaning: The imperative — commands, requests, or permission (loṭ in the lakāra system).

ಆಜ್ಞಾರ್ಥ ಮಧ್ಯಮಪುರುಷದಲ್ಲಿ ನೇರ ಆಜ್ಞೆಯಾಗಿಯೂ, ಪ್ರಥಮಪುರುಷದಲ್ಲಿ "ಆಗಲಿ/ಮಾಡಲಿ" ಎಂಬ ಇಚ್ಛೆಯಾಗಿಯೂ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

The imperative gives a direct command in the 2nd person, or expresses a wish ("let it be/let him") in the 3rd person.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ: ಅಭಿರಕ್ಷಂತುಅರ್ಥ: ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ Meaning: let them protect ವ್ಯಾಕರಣ: ಅಭಿ + ಧಾತು रक्ष् (rakṣ, "to protect") ಆಜ್ಞಾರ್ಥ ಪ್ರಥಮಪುರುಷ ಬಹುವಚನ. abhi + rakṣ ("to protect") — imperative, 3rd person plural.
