ಷಷ್ಠೀ (ṣaṣṭhī — genitive)

ಅರ್ಥ: ಸಂಬಂಧಕಾರಕ ಸೂಚಿಸುವ ಆರನೆಯ ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ. Meaning: The sixth case — the genitive.

ಷಷ್ಠೀ ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ ಎರಡು ನಾಮಪದಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು (ಒಡೆತನ, ಭಾಗ, ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ) ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ — "ನ/ಅ" ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ. ಇದು ಕ್ರಿಯಾಪದದ ಕಾರಕವಲ್ಲ, ನಾಮಪದಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಸಂಬಂಧ.

The genitive marks the relation between two nouns — possession, part-whole, etc. — "of/'s." Unlike the other cases it isn't tied to the verb's action.
