ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನು ಕೌರವ ಸೇನೆಯ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಯೋಧರ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಆರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ (ಶ್ಲೋಕ ೮-೯), ಗುರುಗಳಾದ ಭೀಷ್ಮ-ದ್ರೋಣರಿಂದ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿ. ಸೌಮದತ್ತಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಪಠ್ಯಭೇದವಿದೆ - ಕೆಲವು ಆವೃತ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಭೂರಿಶ್ರವಸ್ ಎಂದೂ, ಕೆಲವು ಕಡೆ ಜಯದ್ರಥ ಎಂದೂ ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ (ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದ ಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿ ನೋಡಿ).

Commentary
Duryodhana now begins listing the key warriors of the Kaurava army (verses 8–9), starting with his teachers Bhīṣma and Droṇa. There is a textual variant regarding "Saumadatti" — some editions identify him as Bhūriśravas, others as Jayadratha (see the note in the source text).
